Job summary:
The post holder will work with the Consultant Head of Department and Lead Biomedical Scientist to ensure the provision of a high quality, cost effective and efficient laboratory service in Haematology/Blood Transfusion / Clinical Chemistry which will meet the standards of laboratory accreditation.
Main duties and responsibilities:
- The post holder will be expected to comply with Departmental policies and procedures to ensure full UKAS Accreditation is maintained.
- Understand the principles of all procedures carried out in the department and perform routine analytical procedures such as are relevant to the work of the department.
- Maintenance/development of core practical skills in other laboratory disciplines such as are relevant to the delivery of a Haematology / Blood Transfusion / Clinical Chemistry laboratory service as directed by the General Manager Pathology.
- Performance of special assignments or relevant duties as indicated or approved by Consultant Head of Department or Lead Biomedical Scientist.
- Ensure accuracy and clarity of all documentation concerned with specimen examination.
- Support the implementation and maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures for all sections/work areas.
- Conform to statutory Health and Safety procedures.
- Ensure that an efficient, effective and documented quality control programme is maintained.
- Advise the Senior Biomedical Scientist on stock levels of reagents and consumables
- Attendance at refresher and management courses; keeping abreast of latest developments in Journals etc.; contributing to and participation in in-service training programmes.
- A24 hour laboratory service is a requirement of the service. The post holder will be expected to cooperate and participate in the provision of this.
- The post holder will be expected to be able to work independently and provide out of hours covers as a lone worker.
