This post will provide a comprehensive general urology outpatient, inpatient and diagnostic and day case surgery service for urology patients. Those who are skilled in the surgical management of BPH would be particularly welcomed.

It is hoped that at least one of the two posts will be attractive to a clinical leader, willing to further the development of the partnership arrangements. Bringing robust professional experience and skills. This appointment will focus on developing the Urology service on the Isle of Wight and support our joint strategy across the Partnership.

The postholder will be expected to demonstrate excellent leadership skills with regard to individual performance, clinical teams, the Trust and when participating in national initiatives.

Although the successful candidates will be employed by the Isle of Wight NHS Trust and will spend the majority of their time working at St Mary’s Hospital, in Newport, in discussion with QAH there are potential opportunities to undertake sub-specialty work at the Queen Alexandra Hospital, in Portsmouth, serving the local community and a total population of approximately 800,000 people.

 

Key responsibilities

  • To deliver high quality diagnostic, treatment and management of adult patients with urological disorders and diseases in line with clinical protocols. Proactively ensuring that all patients receive rapid assessment, treatment and clinical decision making, whilst ensuring our standard to deliver safe quality and performance are delivered and sustained.
  • Ensure prompt attendance at agreed Direct Clinical Care Programmed Activities.
  • Ensure patients are involved in decisions about their care and to respond to their views.
  • Contribute to the team working within the department and promote a culture of collaborative working with colleagues across the Partnership to optimise patient safety.
  • Ensure clinical guidelines and protocols are adhered to by junior medical staff and updated on a regular basis.
  • Keep fully informed about best practice in the specialty/sub-specialty areas and ensure implications for practice changes are discussed with the Clinical Director.
  • To role model good practice for infection control to all members of the multidisciplinary team.

 

Key requirements

  • MBBS or equivalen
  • Membership with the relevant Royal College for the speciality
  • GMC registration and licence to practice
  • Entry on the GMC Specialist Register in Urology via a. CCT (proposed CCT date must be within 6 months of interview), b. CESR or c. European Community rights
  • Should have completed a recognised training programme in Urology
  • Must be able to demonstrate a hight level of clinical experience and competence in Urology
  • Knowledge of current trends in speciality
  • IT skills
  • Experience of teaching and training undergraduates, post graduates and junior medical staff
