Job summary
The Assistant Director of Paediatrics, Neonatal & Community Dental services will be responsible to the Director of Surgery, Children’s and Women’s Health, for the delivery of high quality care to patients within the directorate.
They will provide professional leadership for the Division to include all nurses within Paediatrics and Neonatal services. They will work in partnership with the Divisional Clinical Director for Paediatrics and Community Dentistry to set the direction, reform agenda and service objectives for the Division.
As an Assistant Director, the post holder will be a member of the Directorate of Surgery, Children’s and Women’s health Senior Management team, and will therefore contribute to policy development in the directorate and the achievement of its overall objectives. They will support the Director of Surgery, Children’s and Women’s health with long term planning and transformation/ service reform initiatives.
The post holder will provide strong professional leadership across the division and is professionally accountable to the Executive Director of Nursing. They are responsible for the professional standards and nursing & midwifery governance within the division working with the service to ensure these are continuously reviewed and improved.
They will provide professional nursing advice, taking specific responsibility for patient safety, quality and experience, promoting quality, innovation, productivity and performance that improves quality of care and patient outcomes.
Collaborate closely with senior clinician/lead professionals to implement the objectives of agreed work plan and ensure effective multidisciplinary decision making and service delivery.
Provide and develop a positive working environment and open culture which fosters high morale and commitment amongst all staff and promotes their wellbeing, professional and personal development.
Ensure that services are developed in line with population health needs, service demand and agreed regional priorities.
Be accountable for the delivery of clinical care across all services, and take responsibility along with the Clinical Directors for effective clinical governance arrangements. Fully support the Director with long term strategic planning and service reform initiatives.
Main responsibilities
- Work in partnership with the Divisional leadership team in the establishment of a compelling vision for the Division and its services, setting direction to achieve this as well as supporting the delivery of major organisational change and innovative models of care.
- Ensure the successful implementation of all DOH and Strategic Partnership Planning Group (SPPG - previously HSCB) commissioning priorities and targets in the division with a particular emphasis on those relating to waiting times and the establishment of agreed treatment schedules.
- Work closely with senior clinicians and other senior managers in the Trust to secure an appropriate balance between hospital and community based services and achieve an integrated approach in reducing inappropriate hospital admissions and lengths of stay.
- Contribute to the development of robust clinical and professional networks within the division and across the Trust.
- Together with the directorate leadership team, drive the implementation of professional and clinical excellence, service improvement and governance agendas.
- Develop and implement innovative and best practice models of care that ensure improvements in clinical standards, patient and service user outcomes, safety and experience.
- Support the Assistant Director for Midwifery & Gynaecology services with the day-to day management of the division, the delivery of high quality patient care, clinical effectiveness and the activity and performance levels required by the Trust.
- In partnership with the divisional leadership team, be accountable for nursing, clinical and professional governance of the division to ensure continuous improvement of services and sound management of risks.
- Support the promotion and maintenance of quality and the most recent best practice methodologies across the division.
- To provide strategic and professional leadership for all nursing staff within the division. Make sure that the Trust's policies and procedures in respect of Professional Nursing and Midwifery are communicated appropriately and are fully implemented.
- Encourage, advise on and facilitate the introduction of new initiatives in practice to ensure improvements in care for all service users.
