Job summary
The post holder will operate as part of the Therapeutic Service for children with an Intellectual Disability, along with colleagues from Psychology and Behaviour Support. The service aims to enhance the psychological understanding and care of individual clients across all sectors of the service, and, in doing so, to support families and carers in meeting the needs of these children and optimising quality of life for children with an Intellectual disability and those supporting them. While it is intended that early and intensive intervention can avoid crisis, it is also recognised that some crises do occur which require urgent intervention. The post holder will work flexibly alongside families and carers as part of on-going case work but also at times of crisis, in the client’s place of residence and day setting.
Main responsibilities
- To assist in the assessment, formulation and delivery of care plans involving the psychological intervention and/ or understanding/ management of a client’s difficulties, under the supervision of a qualified professional psychologist and / or behaviour therapist, in both community / residential settings. This may be carried out in a one to one, or group therapy format
- To work collaboratively with carers and other staff (community Children’s disability services, Schools and other providers) to facilitate the implementation of person-centred care/ intervention plans and review such plans in preparation for multidisciplinary reviews
- To assist in the development of a psychologically based framework of understanding and care to the benefit of all clients of the service, across all settings where care and support takes place
- To assist in promoting the rights of the child within services, ensuring the person’s voice is heard and needs met where possible
- To adhere to Trust Policy and Procedure on Child Protection matters
- To attend and contribute to appropriate multi-disciplinary meetings
- To undertake required personal training or other therapeutic interventions as required
