Reports Professionally To: Lead Nurse, Unscheduled Care & Medicine
Accountable to: Assistant Director of Nursing

Job Summary:
The post holder will be responsible for effective management of the Emergency Department and be accountable for providing leadership to the nursing team to:
- Ensure safe and effective care and practice
- Enhance the patients’ / clients’ experience
- Contribute to the delivery of the organisation’s objectives
- Assist in the development of the Emergency Departments service delivery.
The post holder will be the line manager for the nursing team and have responsibility within the Emergency Department for:
- Ensuring that standards of care and practice are maintained, reviewed and continuously developed in line with Department of Health and Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS), Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC), HSC Trust policies , procedures and guidance.
- Ensuring that agreed professional and managerial standards, objectives and statutory requirements are met.
- Providing leadership, clinical expertise and ensuring the delivery of evidence- based and person-centred care.
- Managing the budget ensuring effective and efficient use of physical, human and financial resources.
- The professional development of the nursing team.
- Creating and environment in which effective learning can take place.
- Co-ordinating the involvement of the multidisciplinary team, where appropriate.
